Walking in a Fantasy World
Hands down the best part of the entire trip for me was visiting The Highlands. I felt is if I was viewing the worlds from my fantasy and all the books I have read. More than any other part of the trip I felt a connection to the mountains crowned by mist and the valley's with rain soaked hills. One day I hope to return and have a longer visit. I the time that I did visit I was just mystified. I can completely understand how this was inspiration for J.K. Rowling and how the mountains where brought into the story. I also felt that the trek into the Highlands was interesting. The sculptures of the Kelpies was very cool as well. They seemed to clash with the old style of the castles and other structures.
The trip to the Highlands also included Loch Ness. I have heard the Loch described as having dark water, but the water was almost black from certain angles. Unfortunately, I did not get a glimpse of the allusive monster, but I snapped a quick picture of a stature in honor of the beastie! |
